Other factors to consider

The decision to go into business is based on a thorough study of factors such as the potential

market, sales promotion and advertising, location, making the product or setting up the

service, delivery of the product and profit potential. Consultation with a small

href=http://www.starscapes.com>money making opportunities from home expert such as a Small

Business Administration Service Corps of Retired Executives Association (SCORE) counselor or

the Small money making opportunity Development Center (SBDC)

staff (1-800-445-7232) will help you decide if the particular small business would be feasible

and help find answers to the following and other related questions: How likely is it that the

business will be profitable? What is the competition? Is there a long-time need for the product

or service, or is it a fad-type item? Are you an expert in producing the product or

service?

The following list of home based business opportunity will include a brief description of the business and the approximate start-up costs. These costs include office furnishings, supplies, and specialty equipment (computers, tools, etc.). A salary for the proprietor is not included in this estimate. Advantages of having travel membership

If traveling is your dream you can get travel discounts and make enough money to pay for your trip all with one membership. Because of that many of us never get the chance to spend time in the mountains, by the sea, and hiking through wooded trails; if is your dream to travel this is definitely for you.

MLM Prospecting - How To Improve Your Sign Up Rates

Posted on June 24th, 2009

MLM Prospecting - How To Improve Your Sign Up Rates

Did you know that one of the fastest ways to chase away your prospects in network marketing is

to hunt them down like a rabid bull dog? This happens all the time in network marketing circles

as people who are new to network money making businesses in 2009

marketing, has virtually zero experiences in marketing. Simply put, they are not even marketing

their product or their opportunity at all because they are pushing the business down their

prospects throat.
Here are a number of ways that you can improve your sign up rates without appearing like a

sleazy sales person to your prospects.
(1) Learn to position yourself as an expert in their eyes. One of the reasons why people are

sick and tired of MLM in general is because they keep getting hunted down by all these

desperate people. However, if you are perceived like someone who can bring great value to

others, they will be magnetically attracted to your persona and your charisma, saving you tons

of effort in recruiting and prospecting.
(2) You must also be able to understand your prospect’s needs. Don’t sit there and go on and on

about your money making opportunities from home
while neglecting the feelings of your prospect. Remember, people do not care how much you know

until they know how much you care. By giving thought to your prospect, you can improve your

success rate with less effort.
(3) Don’t sell your main money making opportunity on the first meeting. This technique is

taught by Mike Dillard - an network marketing expert. He believes that in order to sponsor

others effectively and make money, you must begin your sales funnel by marketing, not selling,

a low cost information product that gives people an idea what this business is all about. In

essence, even if the prospect doesn’t sign up with your main opportunity, you can still make

money from them when they buy your low cost information product or even a small retail product.
(4) Helping others to understand the nature of a home based business is also largely depending

on your approach. If they perceive you as a person who desperately begs for business,

sub-consciously they might feel as though they will have to do the same as well if they join

up. By not appearing so desperate, they won’t feel intimidated to do the same themselves and

hence, will give you a better chance at signing up the prospect as a new customer or even as a

long term business builder.

Is it Safe to Apply Online for a CreditCard?

Is it Safe to Apply Online for a CreditCard?

Nothing is a 100% safe, as we often hear and read about information being stolen and misused. However, most reputable financial institutions that invite you to apply online for a business line of credit card use secure servers. A secure server is one that verifies your information will be encrypted.

These are a few ways to determine if the website you are using is secure:
1) A box will appear stating the information or page is secure.
2) You will be asked if you want to register your information on a secure site.
3) A lock will appear on the lower right corner of your screen.
4) The web URL will start with https:// instead of the regular http

Gender Bias in Schools Revisited

Posted on June 22nd, 2009

Gender Bias in Schools Revisited

Fifteen years ago, at the height of the focus on the alleged gender bias against girls in our educational system, I wrote an article for a professional newsletter that argued it was actually the other way around. Boys were at least equally disadvantaged in the classroom, if not more so. The key difference was outside the classroom where girls grew up in a society that didn’t value their achievements and business opportunity in the marketplace and on the athletic field. I took some flack for my point of view back then. Now, in 2008, it’s still a critical and misunderstood issue.
It is essential to put this issue of how boys perform in school into a historical perspective. Since the first public school opened in Boston in 1635 until the middle of the 20th century, the abundance of boys who did not fit the necessary mix of academic intelligence (learning best in a language-based environment) and who lacked a “successful-student-personality” (calm, organized, eager to please) were not a problem. Those boys generally left school by the eighth grade to go to work on their father’s farm, learn his trade/ business, or, as unions became dominant, took on apprentice roles and went on to good jobs. After WWII, everything began to change. Fathers began commuting to work, farms disappeared, unions gradually diminished, and all boys were now expected to be successful students.
Since this didn’t work for many boys, terms like “minimally brain damaged” and “hyperkinetic” became the labels to explain their failures (currently replaced by a multitude of labels such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, and Spectrum Disorders). For decades, many of these boys still managed to get through the system and find reasonable jobs waiting for them. But now they face the information revolution, where jobs are increasingly language-based. This has caused schools and parents to put even more pressure on all boys to succeed in school. Thus, the marked increase in concern about the many boys who still don’t fit our school system, which has never adapted its model to accommodate the varied learning styles not only associated with gender but across all children.
Many of you may be familiar with some of the many statistics that back up these concerns. It begins early. In elementary school boys are twice as likely to be identified with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral problems, and to end up in special education. Young boys are 60% more likely to repeat a grade. By middle school, it’s not just the appearance of test score gaps that concern us. It’s data that shows boys skip school more often, get injured in fights much more often (though I do realize that girls hurt other girls in non-physical ways that can be even more devastating) and suicide rates, though small, are three times as likely in boys.
Then we get to high school. Boys are a third more likely to drop out and to be doing heavy drugs. Test scores and participation in advanced classes now significantly favor girls. These gaps are even more pronounced in our urban schools but be clear, they are not limited to poor, inner city children. Teenage boys dominate special classes and have significantly higher suicide rates. (The girls show their distress through high rates of eating disorders and rising rates of smoking.)
The pattern continues beyond high school. 58% of undergraduate students are now female and the higher ratio of women continues right on into graduate school. It won’t take more than another generation before boys and men can’t find a male to be their primary care physician.
Of course some will argue this matters little since women allegedly still have their glass ceiling and there is still a lack of equal pay for equal jobs. But within a decade or two, the shortage of reasonably educated men will change this. Some women note that females have suffered for centuries. They suggest males in our society will need to face up to this “new” problem and do something about it just the way women did in the latter part of the 20th century.
Well, part of the problem was, and still is, that both genders face issues and to remain a healthy productive society, a better understanding of boys and girls and the similarities and differences in how they develop needs to be better understood and addressed. From where I have been watching for the past forty years or so, our educational system is harmful to most children regardless of gender. So it is not my intention to slight the needs of girls in our schools or women in the work world by pausing to focus on some very significant issues facing males in our schools as well as society in general.
It has been well documented that boys develop more slowly in certain aspects of their neurology. In general, (there are always exceptions to stereotypes) young girls are more verbal, more able to sit still, and learn to read more quickly. This substantially increases their likelihood of immediate success in a school system that places early emphasis on all these skills. Given the heightened anxiety of today’s parents about their children’s early academic success determining life success, preschools have become increasingly skills oriented, starting the frustration for boys at even earlier ages. Meanwhile, as teachers are increasingly forced to teach to statewide tests, they lose the flexibility to teach in more creative ways that would benefit both genders. But it especially increases the challenges boys have to face.
While more research is needed and new teaching strategies need to evolve, I think there are a couple of additional factors that play a key role in making the life of boys particularly disadvantaged at this time in our society. Boys lack male role models for academic learning and developing a strong, positive sense of their masculinity. In addition, young boys have dramatically lost their home business opportunity to be physically active and to use social play as a way to explore and understand the world they live in.
Mothers, and other women, are the primary caretakers of young children. Boys are then handed off to female teachers for the next several years. Rarely do boys have the opportunity to observe and model their academic behavior after a same sex adult. But it also works the other way. Female teachers have less tolerance for a bit of chaos and roughhousing. I recall from my early days as a psychologist when I was in charge of a number of inner city preschools. When I would visit the classes, it would turn in to king of the hill battles and kids climbing all over me. My female teachers understood the importance of this and didn’t mind it one bit.
But, over the years, when I have consulted with preschools and elementary schools, teachers are more concerned with the possibility of someone getting hurt (some of which reflects our increasing litigious society) and the sense of things getting out of control than recognizing the importance of this high energy activity for boys (and many girls as well). I have watched too many female teachers reprimanding boys for behavior that should be considered normal, slightly aggressive, overactive male behavior. It should be built in to the program, not frowned upon. Meanwhile, recess and phys ed classes are being decreased so teachers have more time to raise those classroom test scores, making it even worse for boys. It doesn’t do anything for the epidemic of obesity either!
Boys (and many girls) need to be allowed to run free, ride their bikes around town, play for hours outside, wander into the woods and climb trees, bring home turtles, frogs, and bugs. Frightened parents, even in more advantaged communities, allow fear of the unlikely (stranger abduction, pedophiles) to keep boys inside. Girls, too. Now parents are paying the price of children who explore the world via the internet and are realizing this may be more risky than letting them actually leave the house!
Meanwhile, we need more male teachers. We need more men coming in to visit the elementary classrooms. We also need more Big Brothers. The problem is not just the lack of men in the school life of our boys. Between high rates of divorce and of young, poor fathers abandoning their children, it is estimated that an astonishing 40% of our boys are growing up without a father in their lives. Being a minority male in our inner cities means you are more likely to end up in jail or dead by 21 than graduating high school, no less going to college.
We need to offer boys and girls an education that addresses the total child, not just the academic skill part. We need to design middle schools and high schools that offer many pathways to earning a reasonable living and have more men involved right from the beginning. We need longer school days if a significant part of that time can be spent playing and exercising. We need to identify each child’s strengths, regardless of gender, and allow that child to use those strengths to be productive in school in a variety of acceptable ways, not just a few narrow ways that relegate most children to feeling inadequate.
Parents have an important role in addressing this problem. One thing is to err on the side of safety and regardless of how mature your son seems to be, don’t make him one of the youngest in his class. Second, too often parents will present to me a picture of a son whom they describe as lovable and caring, sensitive, having good friends and being terrific with young children. But they are distressed because he is very inconsistent in his school performance, only seems to work at what interests him, and resists doing homework because he would rather play. This is a great young boy with the kind of values and spirit that we hope he’ll continue to demonstrate when he’s a man. He might make a great teacher some day! We need parents to focus more on their child’s successes and less on their perceived shortcomings, especially with their sons. Parents must be more conscious of their own gender bias.
In addition, the very behaviors and attitudes which cause many boys to under perform in school serve them well in the real world. High energy, totally absorbed by only what strongly interests them, challenging the rules, and having strong leadership skills often are the foundation for successful entrepreneurs and great innovators in many spheres of life. Parents and educators need to be able to identify that potential and not destroy the drive and self-confidence of these “academically underachieving” boys before they get a chance to prove themselves in the real world.
And just for emphasis, I want to state again, we need boys to have meaningful relationships with men from birth on.

Effect of a pushrim-activated power-assist wheelchair on the functional capabilities of persons with tetraplegia

Posted on June 21st, 2009

Effect of a pushrim-activated power-assist wheelchair on the functional capabilities of persons with tetraplegia

OBJECTIVES: To test the differences between a pushrim-activated medicare power wheelchairs and a traditional manual wheelchair while performing common driving activities and to assess their relative merits for people with tetraplegia. DESIGN: Repeated measures. SETTING: An activities of daily living (ADL) laboratory within a rehabilitation research center. PARTICIPANTS: Fifteen full-time manual wheelchair users with tetraplegia due to a spinal cord injury. INTERVENTIONS: Participants propelled both their own manual wheelchairs and a PAPAW 3 times over an ADL course. The order in which the 2 different wheelchairs were presented to the participants was randomized. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Each participant’s heart rate was monitored throughout testing by a digital, wireless heart-rate monitor. Time to complete the course was recorded, and participants were surveyed with a visual analog scale after the first, third, fourth, and sixth trials to determine the ease of completing each obstacle and their ergonomic preferences between the 2 wheelchairs. Participants also were observed throughout the trials to determine how much assistance they needed to complete each obstacle course. RESULTS: After using a Bonferroni adjustment, 4 obstacles (carpet, dimple strips, up a ramp, up a curb cut) were rated as being significantly easier ( P <.001) to complete when using the PAPAW. Participants also showed a significant decrease in mean heart rate throughout all 3 trials ( P =.015, P =.001, P =.003, respectively) when using a PAPAW. The amount of assistance needed by participants, the responses to ergonomic questions, and the overall time to complete the ADL course did not differ significantly between the 2 power wheelchairs. CONCLUSIONS: For subjects with tetraplegia, PAPAWs have the potential to improve functional capabilities during certain ADLs, especially when propelling up ramps, over uneven surfaces, and over thick carpet.

Learning About Make Money At Home Now

Learning About Make Money At Home Now

Any make money at home now business opportunity worth

considering will either have a track record that you can investigate and evaluate or it will

have a clear statement of the plan, the potential, and the up-front costs.

Before investing any time or money in a specific make money at home now business, there are

some questions you should consider first.

More Info on Make Money at Home Now

How long has the business opportunity been in home business?

Before investing time and money in marketing an make money at home now opportunity, it is

important to determine how long it has been operating.

If it is a new concept that has not been proven in the marketplace, you have no assurance that

it will even work.

Does the company have a fixed address and phone number? This may seem obvious to you, but the

fact is, thousands of companies operate with nothing more than a website and an email address.

Many of them are here today and gone tomorrow. Make sure the business you intend to deal with

has a fixed address, physical location, and established phone number.

Does the make money at home now business have some successful members you can talk to? Most

business opportunities will show you testimonials. But these are often untrustworthy.

They could even be completely fabricated. Ask the owner of the business for names of real

people you can talk to. Call them on the telephone and ask them to share their experiences with

the program.

This will not only provide you with valuable first-hand information about the program, but it

will give you a list of advisors who might be willing to help you along the way.

How much initial investment is required? In many cases a proven make money at home now business

with a successful track record will involve some kind of initial investment.

You should not assume that a business opportunity that is free to join is a better investment.

Usually a free-to-join business will involve other costs such as marketing and advertising

fees. Just keep in mind that nobody gives away opportunities for free.

What you have to determine is whether a specific make money at home now business has a

successful track record, is managed by honest people and offers you a realistic chance of

actually making some money. These are the things you must weigh against the entry costs.

What is the realistic income potential of the business? Have a careful look at the numbers and

projections provided by the business opportunity. Then talk with actual members who are using

the program to determine if they have been able to turn those numbers into reality.

Are there extra fees such as yearly or monthly subscription fees, shipping costs, or minimum

purchase requirements? Make sure to get a detailed list of all the fees involved in operating

the new business. These things may not seem significant now, but they can easily eat into your

profits later.

How much control of your new business will you have? Be clear on who owns the business, and who

controls the way it is developed and marketed. You may want to diversify your product offerings

in order to avoid being at the mercy of a “head office.

MLM Recruiting - Stop Hard Selling Your Prospects In Order To Recruit Better

Posted on June 14th, 2009

MLM Recruiting - Stop Hard Selling Your Prospects In Order To Recruit Better

One of the worst fears in MLM recruiting is the harsh rejection that comes with prospecting.
This happens quite often in network marketing and people, including the distributors themselves figuratively ‘wet their pants’ when they try and pick up the phone and share with others about their network marketing opportunity.
They even try and get their close friends and relatives to join. Normally, they will seem at ease or comfortable with their buddies, but when it comes to network marketing; their social skills go haywire as they try and shove their network marketing business opportunity down their throats.
This is not the right way to build your network marketing business!
Hard selling and strong arming someone into your opportunity is not the right way to build your business and if you try and force others to sign up, you will inevitably chase people away - especially your close friends and relatives! It’s no wonder people say that MLM recruiting methods make people lose their friends when they start avoiding the distributor like a dangerous plague.
If you truly want to achieve success in your Starscapes.com business opportunity, the first thing you must do is to stop hard selling. Don’t be so desperate for sales. After all, you must realize that when you tell someone to sign up on the first meeting, it is like asking a guy or a girl to marry you on the first date!
Committing to a business decision takes time, trust and requires a degree of understanding of the business otherwise, even if they do sign up, they might not necessarily do it with a firm conviction and it is just a spur of the moment.
By investing in your personal development, social skills and understanding the proper sales psychology, you will be able to better your chance at surviving in this network marketing jungle. At the very least, it will greatly minimize harsh rejections.

Home Business Misconceptions

Posted on June 8th, 2009

Home Business Misconceptions

In my home business coaching sessions, I have found that many people start their home businesses based on misconceptions, myths, and half truths.
They are being told that they can sign up for a few programs, build a site around those topics, slap the banners and links on their site, then sit back and collect the money - never having to work again.
Wrong.
The truth of the matter is that there are more people who fail at their home businesses, than people who actually succeed.
These people are not told that they will actually have to work twice as hard at their Starscapes business opportunity as they did at their traditional job. They are not told about the hours and hours of marketing time that they will put in. They usually are not even told by the affiliate managers how to market the products or their websites.
They have up lines that are inactive or flat out ignore them. They don’t have the first clue as to how to build a downline, much less how to offer support to their downline. They don’t understand conversion rates or the concept of PPC (pay per click) programs.
However, they truly believe what they have been told - They believe that they can get rich by doing absolutely nothing. These are otherwise intelligent people. Why would they believe this? They believe because they want to believe. Because they see it everyday, everywhere on the Internet. They are told that it is possible. They not only want to believe it - for their own reasons, they need to believe it.
Unfortunately, it is my job to tell them the truth and then they feel let down. By the time a client comes to me for help, they are already a bit disillusioned. Since initial clients usually begin by paying for one session at a time, I go ahead and burst their bubble during the first session. I don’t want them to spend money that they don’t have on an idea that won’t work.
After the first session, the client is left to make a decision. They either have to do what it takes to make their business a success, toss the idea out the window, or keep doing exactly what they have been doing with the exact same results (or lack of results as the case may be). Less than half are willing to do what it takes to succeed. The rest toss the idea out the window. I’ve never had a client who decided to keep doing what they had been doing.
I do have a point. My point is that if you are an affiliate manager, or if you have a downline, be honest. Tell your affiliates and downlines the truth. Tell them upfront what will be required of them. Be honest about possible earnings, and be honest about your own earnings. After being honest, “look around” to see who is still interested in your business. I promise, there will still be people interested - people willing to put forth the effort that is required. These are the people that you want to invest your time in.
Once you know who is serious about the business, work with them closely. Offer them all of the support you can possibly offer. Make suggestions to help them improve their site. Put together marketing packages and ideas for them. Start a forum for your downline, and be active in that forum. If you haven’t heard from them in a while, send them an email or a card and ask them if everything is okay. The more successful your downline is, the more successful you are.

Pre-approvals

Posted on June 7th, 2009

Pre-approvals

Most pre-approval mailings request a signature and a statement of recent earnings. It sounds pretty straightforward, but the words “subject to building business credit approval” are always hidden somewhere. While it is tempting to simply sign away, or make up an amount under the “earnings” title, this information will haunt you down the road when you are unable to pay your bills. No one wants a fraud or perjury charge in addition to other trouble that might come with it.

If it Sounds too Good to be True, it is

If you have been pre-approved despite not having worked for a few months or your gross income is less than $10,000, you really should think twice before attempting to apply for a business line of credit card. You should certainly not have been pre-approved.

Posted on June 7th, 2009

The Development of M3S-Based GPS Navchair and Tele-Monitor System.

The purpose of this study is to develop a M3S- Based GPS navigation system for power wheelchairs
. The wheelchair steered with GPS and electronic compass can move automatically toward a specific destination through a GIS-Map in the computer. The topic of this study is to help people with disabilities regain independence of transportation in specific areas of their daily activities. This system is now designed to operate in special locations, for example, campuses or airports. Safety of the system is enhanced according to “M3S”, which is an international standard for power wheelchair and medical scooters. In the proposed architecture, modules are easily and securely integrated to the wheelchair, which includes a tele-monitor system implemented with computer network, mobile-phone and physiological sensors. Bio-signals, wheelchair location and other information of the user are acquired by the nursing staff or any other medical personnel by using this system.

A New Home Based Business Starts Every Ten Seconds - Are You Ready?

Posted on June 2nd, 2009

A New Home Based Business Starts Every Ten Seconds - Are You Ready?

Running your own best home business to start is just one of many

ways to make money. It is the same as owning your own traditional business and should be

treated as such. You will need to advertise your business, sell and promote any products and

get others to join your team. It takes allot of hard work, not to mention time and dedication.

However, the potential for success is great and can be very rewarding.
Before starting a best home businesses from home
you need to figure out what is real and what is a scam. You must do your homework. The

Internet is great for researching anything, including getting the facts about any best home

business to start.
1. Look for any information about a company before joining. Look for complaints, investigations

or misleading information about the products.
2. Try and get a friend for their opinion about a company, not to join with you but just to

help you make a decision.
3. Talk to people who are familiar with a company that you are interested in. What sets that

company apart from all the rest?
4. Check with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. How long has the company

been in business? Search for any news relating to the company, good or bad.
5. What product do they offer? It is extremely important that the product is reasonably priced

and a consumable. Can the product be ordered and consumed every month? Would a customer want to

order and consume it every month?
6. Stay away from companies that require you to stock up on inventory. Find a company that only

requires you to purchase enough products for a month at a time.
7. Avoid high start up costs. They are usually a sign that a company is just looking to make a

profit and not to provide a useful, quality product. Think about it, why should you pay an

outrageous amount to start a business? What purpose would it serve except to give someone else

your money?
8. What is required before you actually get a check? Make sure you understand how you will get

paid and what is required for you to get paid before starting.
9. Does the company provide support and training? Support is extremely important, you will need

help and you will need training. Who is your sponsor? How long have they been with the company

and will they provide the support you need to be successful?
10. Is there a refund policy?
11. Your compensation should be based on the purchase of a product by a customer. If you cannot

figure out what the product is, then avoid that company.
12. Before signing on the dotted line talk with others in the business to see what they have to

say about the company and the compensation plan.
Remember that all good things take time and patience. If you plan out your business before

beginning then your chances for succeeding are greater then just by jumping into the first

opportunity that you come across.
Most people join an opportunity with the mistaken notion that just by signing up and getting a

free website to promote will make them wealthy overnight.
There is no secret formula to building a successful best home businesses from home. Yes it is

possible to work smarter by automating allot of your tasks. But to build a business takes work

and lots of it.
TIP: Find a mentor. If you can establish a relationship with a good mentor who cares about

making you a success, then stick with them! They are few and far between.
Starting a best home businesses from home may be the best decision that you will every make.

The variety is much larger then it use to be, thanks to the internet.
Nothing can be more satisfying then doing your own thing at home.
Having plenty of time to spend with loved ones along with a very profitable business is indeed

a wonderful thing.

An experimental method for measuring the moment of inertia of an electric power wheelchair

This study describe an experiment measuring the moment of inertia of an electric medicare power wheelchairs (EPW) using a torsional pendulum method. Inertia of the wheelchair is an important factor for control, which is a key issue in wheelchair driving. The experimental test platform consisted of a bottom circular wood plate, an upper metal plate, and four ropes. Materials with known moments of inertia such as the metal disk and cylinder were used to test the accuracy of the system. The EPW used in the experiment was Invacare G3 Torque SP Storm Series. The measured result of the moment inertia of the wheelchair was 5.2280 kg.m(2) and handicap scooters the errors of the system are less than 10% even when the object is only 25lbs. The results are consistent when compared with other approximate methods. In addition, the experimental method could be used to measure the moment of inertia of manual wheelchairs and other irregular objects

Wheeling petit pas: Parkinsonism detected by observation of wheelchair propulsion.

Posted on May 24th, 2009

Wheeling petit pas: Parkinsonism detected by observation of wheelchair propulsion.

We present a man with parkinsonism detected by the observation of medical scooters propulsion. His manual handicap scooters propulsion technique was observed to include rapid, brief, low-power strokes resembling the marche petit pas (walking with tiny steps) phenomenon of parkinsonism. We videotaped his wheelchair propulsion and compared him with ten age-, gender-, and diagnosis-matched controls. The patient had a propulsion velocity of 0.14 m/sec compared with a mean (+/- standard deviation) of 0.73 (+/- 0.16) m/sec for the controls, a cadence of 209 strokes/min vs. 60 (+/- 12) strokes/min for the controls, and a mechanical efficiency of 0.04 m/stroke compared with 0.75 (+/- 0.25) m/stroke for the controls. This observation shifted the course of his medical investigations and management as well as his rehabilitation care. This is the first detailed report of how parkinsonian features may affect manual wheelchair propulsion. It suggests that observation of wheelchair mobility should be a routine component of the physical examination of wheelchair users.

Before you buy a business

Posted on May 23rd, 2009

Before you buy a business

Study the disclosure document and proposed contract carefully.
Interview current owners in person. (They should be listed in the disclosure document.) Visiting them in person may help you identify any who are “shills” - people paid to give favorable reports.
Investigate claims about your potential earnings. Some companies may claim that you’ll earn a certain income or that existing franchisees or business opportunity purchasers earn a certain amount. Companies making earnings representations must provide you with the written basis for their claims. Be suspicious of any company that does not show you in writing how it computed its earnings claims.
Sellers also must tell you in writing the number and percentage of owners who have done as well as they claim you will. Keep in mind that broad sales claims about successful areas of business - “Be a part of our $4 billion industry,” for example - may have no bearing on your likelihood of success. Also, recognize that once you buy the business, you may be competing with franchise owners or independent home business people with more experience than you.
Listen carefully to the sales presentation. Some sales tactics should signal caution. For example, if you are pressured to sign immediately “because prices will go up tomorrow,” or “another buyer wants this deal,” slow down. A seller with a good offer doesn’t use high-pressure tactics. Under the FTC’s Franchise and business opportunity Rule, the seller must wait at least 10 business days after giving you the required documents before accepting your money or signature on an agreement. Be wary if the salesperson makes the job sound too easy. The thought of “easy money” may be appealing, but success generally requires hard work.
Get the seller’s promises in writing. Any oral promises you get from a salesperson should be written into the contract you sign. If the salesperson says one thing but the contract says nothing about it or says something different, it’s the contract that counts. If a seller balks at putting oral promises in writing, be alert to potential problems and consider doing business with another firm.
Consider getting professional advice. Ask a lawyer, accountant, or business advisor to read the disclosure document and proposed contract. The money and time you spend on professional assistance, and research - such as phone calls to current owners - could save you from a bad investment decision.

An Ebay Store

Posted on May 20th, 2009

An Ebay Store

If you are looking to a simple and safe business opportunity to start from the comforts of your own home, then look no further than an Ebay store. This is a great way for you to generate an extra income, and you can actually see progress with your finances if you do it right. There are virtually millions of things that can be sold from an eBay store, and you never have to worry about leaving your home other than the shipping days that is. Regardless of what it is that you are going to offer the general public, you are going to need to keep this business running at all times day and night to make the kind of money you need to survive with.
Internet An Absolute Must
Whatever it is that you intend on selling with an Ebay store, you are going to need an active and fast Internet connection. This is what your home business is going to be based off of, and without the net you are without customers. Some of the most popular things that you will find on the Ebay site for sale by a store are books. This is a great way to generate extra cash or to even make a great deal of money, as there are always books that people are looking for. The books can be listed on the Internet and sold through the web, and you will either keep the books at home or in a storage space while you are in process of selling them. This is a simple way to make extra money, and you can actually see the company grow quite rapidly if you are good at what you do. Not unlike any other form of business, this type of company is going to take time to get off the ground and a great level of dedication to keep things going successfully.
Expansion
When you are dealing with an Ebay store, you do not have to worry about problems with expansion. The biggest concern that you may face when dealing with this issue, is how you are going to set up storage for your wares if you do not have a factory direct line to the company you are getting your orders from. Storing things like books or electronics in your home can in fact take up more room than you are able to allocate. This is why it is best to either run a direct line to the shipper, or have a facility large enough to accommodate what you need to store while you acquire business and customers.
Low Overhead
One of the best aspects of running an Ebay store is that there is basically minimal overhead that is attached to the business. Aside from the obvious like an Internet connection and possibly paper for printing shipping labels, there really is not much that is required financially from you if you do it all from home. This makes a company like this very simple and easy to manage. In the long run it can also make a company like this very profitable if you choose the right things to sell on line.

Monitoring seat feature usage among wheelchair users.

Posted on May 17th, 2009

Monitoring seat feature usage among wheelchair users.

To help manage pressure ulcers and adjust posture, power wheelchairs can be equipped with seat tilt and backrest recline features. Clinicians usually prescribe these features for wheelchair users who are vulnerable to pressure sores or have difficulty changing postures, but little data has been collected to determine whether or not, and what extent, these features are used. This study examined how handicap scooters users use power wheelchair seat features such as seat tilt, backrest recline, and seat elevation, during typical daily activities. A Seat Feature Data Logger (SFDL) was attached to 11 subject’s wheelchairs for 10-14 days to gather data regarding daily usage of these features. The results showed that while subjects did not always use large angles of tilt and recline as many clinicians recommend, these features were used frequently and their use resulted in lower peak pressures. The information collected by the SFDL allows for a novel and quantitative description of the effectiveness and use of power seat features, and can also be used as a clinical compliance tool

How Having 8 Legs Can Create Leads For Your Business

Posted on May 16th, 2009

How Having 8 Legs Can Create Leads For Your Business

In any business opportunity, the money has to come from somewhere. Whether it’s from sales revenue or service charges or other transactions, the bitter business truth is that every dime in your pocket used to be in someone else’s.
It’s not a bad thing. Just because you have money that used to be in someone else’s possession doesn’t mean that the former owner is now busting out the food stamps. Through however many transactions between however many parties, you received money, and they received either goods or services. And that’s how an economy works.
On a less Macro scale, in the world of network and multi-level marketing this principle remains especially true and obvious. At the very core of your business, you make money through the sale of goods or services to someone. You yourself may never sell a thing and be living in a huge mansion, but odds are you’re benefiting from the sale of something to someone. This system of making sales work for you is part of the appeal of MLM. Downlines. You benefit from the work of others. The more people you have in your downlines, the more profit you are making. Downlines make sales. You make money. End of story. But what’s the name of the game?
Leads. The hottest commodity of MLM. If you’ve got ‘em, you’ve got it. If not, you’re going to be working really, really hard to pay for that huge mansion on door-to-door sales and Tupperware parties. If you can get downlines, you can get money. In order to have downlines, you need leads. In short, leads equal money.
And that’s the MLM secret, which you already know, of course. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you can’t make a fortune by yourself in this home based business opportunity. But just because you know that you need leads doesn’t mean you can find them. And that’s where so many MLM ventures fail. It is a commonly reported statistic that well over 90% of those involved in MLM never make a profit. But you can bet that a healthy supply of leads will keep in you in the successful ten percent.
There’s a couple different ways to go about it. You can do what most MLMers do (and fail): make a list of your friends and family (sound familiar?), pass out ‘business op’ fliers, spend lots of money and have social functions, beg, plead, scream, pass out, wake up, continue. Eventually, the strenuous effort takes its toll on your health and you leave the industry to do something a little more docile and less stressful on your health, like substitute teaching in an alternative high school.
Personally, I I went door to door, I called local businesses and tricked whoever answered the phone into coming in for a job interview, I passed out Flyers, I spent THOUSANDS of dollars on leads, with limited success.
There is a better way. A way to channel leads to your business who come looking for it. The Spider Web Marketing System is a system designed to do one thing: generate leads. And it does so with the greatest effectiveness and efficiency in the industry. It’s based on what is called the funded proposal system, a system that utilizes highly developed Internet marketing strategies to bring interested, real leads. The best part of funded proposal, and the great appeal of The Spider Web Marketing System, is that it perpetuates itself, so that it keeps itself going and continues to generate income for you, while continually sending quality leads your way.
There are other ways to get leads. You can put down some serious cash for “lead lists” who will give you pages and pages of innocent people who have been called a hundred times, and you can work off of that. But with Spider Web Marketing, these are leads that come to you. They are “fresh leads,” meaning that they have not been called before or come from any list. These are people, who using the Internet, seek out a business opportunity and come straight to you.
The SpiderWeb Marketing System has been great for me because Kimball and his corporate staff have been very helpful, I researched thoroughly and know this is the best system, I am excited to gain solid leads, It has been wonderful so far. Its helped me get more leads, grow my business, and make more money, and helped me on my goal to Buy my dream house, Gain financial freedom, Buy a second home, Become a Trillionaire, Retire early.
Basically, The Spider Web Marketing System is a lead generating machine. And in a business where leads are the name of the game, that’s a piece of equipment you can’t afford to be without.

Design features of portable wheelchair ramps and their implications for curb and vehicle access.

Design features of portable wheelchair ramps and their implications for curb and vehicle access.

This study evaluated a range of portable wheelchair ramps to highlight the effect of different product features on ease of use when power wheelchairs
And medicare power wheelchairs users climb curbs or access vehicles. Twelve portable ramps were evaluated. Although all the ramps were designed to load powered wheelchairs into motor vehicles, they were manufactured in different designs. The ramps were based on a “singlewide” platform or “channel” design. Some ramps had fixed dimensions, whereas others could be reduced in size because they were telescopic or designed to allow folding. Overall, the ramps could be divided into four subgroups on the basis of their key features. These were horizontally and longitudinally folding ramps, telescopic ramps, and ramps with fixed dimensions. The telescopic ramps could be subdivided into “U”-shaped gutter ramps and reverse profile ramps. Product appraisals and trials involving wheelchair users and caregivers of wheelchair users were done to evaluate each of these ramp designs. Although wheelchair ramps are available in a wide range of designs and configurations, we found that no single ramp design successfully met the needs of all wheelchair users or their caregivers. The evaluation highlighted a number of specific problems and potential hazards. Some ramps were found to move during a maneuver, showed poor stability when used with some vehicles, or were too narrow to allow wheelchair castors to pass through the channel without jamming. Some features, such as handles and locking mechanisms, influenced the ease with which the caregivers could use the ramps. Wheelchair users preferred the wide platform ramps because they were able to drive up these with ease and little preparation. The caregivers preferred folding or telescopic channel ramps because these were easier to handle and store.

Write an Education Cover Letter That Lands the Job!

If you want a job as a teacher or education professional, create an education cover letter that stands out from the crowd. Be clear up front about the job you’re looking forwhether a classroom teacher, a school district employee, an educational consultant. Then include in your education cover letter, your experience as well as related tasks and talents that will separate you from competitors for the same job. It’s important, as well, to ask for an interview at the end of all education cover letters so you can meet the employer face-to-face and clinch the deal.

Apply for credit

In that case, you can either hope that when you apply for a business line of credit card, someone will take a leap and offer you a line of building business credit. Or, if you can show just cause, you can contact the financial institution and discuss your situation. This is another good reason to apply for a card at your bank where you have a credit line (or at least an account) already established.

Understanding and measuring powered wheelchair mobility and manoeuvrability. Part I. Reach in confined spaces

Understanding and measuring powered wheelchair mobility and manoeuvrability. Part I. Reach in confined spaces

PURPOSE: To determine: (1) what power wheelchairs manoeuvrability factors are important and (2) the effects of powered wheelchair design on the ability to reach in a confined space. METHOD: The relative importance of five aspects of wheelchair manoeuvrability was determined through a survey of users of wheelchairs (N = 52) and health care professionals and others (N = 89). A single young, non-disabled subject undertook repeated trials of reach distance on to a counter at the end of a corridor whose width could be adjusted by moving Styrofoam walls. RESULTS: Reaching, moving in confined spaces and avoiding collisions were more important than speed and avoiding the need to drive backwards. The rear wheel drive powered wheelchair was found to allow the greatest reach when driving backwards into the space and the medicare power wheelchairs which moved in a sideways direction allowed greatest reach in the narrowest corridor. CONCLUSIONS: The survey concluded that manoeuvring in small spaces and reaching without collisions were important. The powered wheelchair with sideways capability afforded the greatest reach in confined spaces except when the rear wheel drive chair was driven in backwards. The survey respondents did not place a high priority on avoiding backwards driving but some people find this difficult to do safely.

BUSINESS NETWORK ORGANIZER

Posted on April 28th, 2009

BUSINESS NETWORK ORGANIZER

A business opportunity network organizer solves two of the most common problems small-business owners have. First is their need to get business. 70% of small business owners say getting enough customers is their #1 challenge. Second is finding time to exchange information with other small-business owners in their community. A network organizer sets up groups of small-business owners to meet regularly, usually weekly, in order to give one another business referrals and to help one another get business. Each group or club has only one person from any particular business or profession, so there’s no competition among the members of the group. Such networking organizations are a structured way for professionals and home business owners to refer clients and customers to one another. Also called word-of-mouth marketing, getting business through referrals from other people has always been a common practice. Traditional service and fraternal organizations such as Rotary, Eagles, Elks, Lions, and Moose have long served as indirect and informal ways of obtaining referrals. Many of today’s small-business owners, however, are seeking a more focused approach to getting referrals by joining what are referred to as leads clubs or networking groups. The sole purpose of these groups is to enable members to give and get referrals.

Advantages and disadvantages

Posted on April 27th, 2009

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of a home based business opportunity include having a flexible schedule; integration of family and work responsibilities; less involvement with others in a regular work environment, such as power struggles and red tape; no commuting time (unless you travel to a customer’s home or place of business); control of your own personal environment (temperature, light, work breaks, etc); self-determination and independence; increasing personal fulfillment; seeking and setting personal goals; enhancing creativity; and remaining in a community or moving with a spouse to a new community even when jobs are scarce or not available.
Disadvantages of a home business opportunity include needing to know a lot of information to operate a business successfully; the risk involved in operating a business; conflict in ownership of time (When is it my “own” time and when is “business” time?); lack of guaranteed employee fringe benefits; many competing roles and responsibilities (producer, promoter, bill collector, customer service representative); lack of job security; loss of home space use by family; interruptions; lack of self-discipline; little opportunity to delegate tasks to others; long hard hours, and legal requirements including zoning regulations. Being committed to a business may mean lack of freedom to do other things and to go as you please.
